The latest application of PPS in automotive parts

 
According to a March report by the US market research firm GVR, the global market for polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is $1.19 billion in 2018. It is expected that its compound annual growth rate will reach 8.8 % between 2019 and 2025. PPS has a wide range of applications in the automotive industry, and PPS demand in automotive manufacturing countries such as India, China and Japan is increasing to meet the requirements for lightweight and stable vehicle.

 Overview of PPS
 
PPS, polyphenylene sulfide, is a linear polymer compound composed of alternating benzene rings and sulfur atoms. The combination of the thioether bond and the benzene ring enable its excellent heat resistance, flame retardancy, chemical resistance and good compatibility with other inorganic fillers.

Unmodified PPS has the characteristics of high brittleness, short elongation, high cost, poor coatability and processability. Therefore, since the successful development of PPS, people have carried out intensive modification research and development, and we can now see many modification solutions. According to chemical/physical modification methods, the varieties can be mainly divided into two types: structural modified PPS and blended modified PPS. Among them, blended modified PPS can be further divided into filled modified PPS and PPS alloys.
